On Hollywood, Designs and Red Carpets

karlyn I had the pleasure of attending Greg LaVoi’s launch of his new line of designs inspired by someone in my own family. My great-aunt Irene Lentz has been gone now, for over four decades.. but not forgotten. Since I started my Irene-Lentz.com site back in 2009, I have had the pleasure of meeting (online and off) many Irene fans, a couple of authors and several talented individuals in the media and design world. I’ve received wonderful letters and testimonials from these folks reminiscing on their respect and love of Irene’s talent and skill in fashion design. It’s such a gift to hear this. Over the years; I’ve learned so much from the amazing people who have taken the time to write and share the results of their experience, connections to Irene Lentz, their years of research, projects and/or their writings related to my aunt. I’m truly honored.

irene-portrait2 Hollywood limelight was probably a weekly event in my great-aunts life. I imagine Irene rubbing elbows with celebrities was a pretty common occurrence in her career as a Hollywood Fashion Designer. I have seen the list of movies she worked on and incredible actresses she dressed. It’s a life and time I can only imagine.. from what I know of Hollywood, the photos I’ve seen from Irene’s personal collection, and stories I’ve heard from my mother and grandmother.

Most recently, I walked the red carpet at Greg’s design launch. Fun? You bet! The whole event was just amazing and Greg’s design line was phenomenal.. seriously. It was an honor to Irene and a pleasure to be a part after all these years. It is especially gratifying to think that this launch of new, reinvented designs, inspired by my aunt Irene, will be available to the public via Greg’s “Irene by Greg LaVoi”. New generations of people and designers will have the chance to get to know Irene Lentz, the original, through Greg’s very talented and thoughtful work. I imagine now, that the Irene Legacy will continue to thrive for years to come and that is something very impressive to look forward to.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has contacted me regarding your interests and connections to my great-aunt. I respond to all communications I receive and they continue to intrigue and delight me. Thank you for your time and oh-so-kind words.

These (below) are some additional images I personally took of the red carpet. If you care to see more from this awesome event, click to this link of my photos of the Irene by Greg LaVoi Fashion Show. Thank you and enjoy!

Play Bingo in the Comfort of your own Home

Play Bingo in the Comfort of your own Home

Staying indoors and doing nothing to pass the time during those awful rainy days can be quite a trauma, but worry not, there are plenty of fun and exciting things that you can do with your loved ones whenever you’re trapped indoors. Apart from reading, watching the idiot-box or browsing the Internet, you can also play board games or Twister.

Playing board games or Twister may be a tad old fashioned to many, but it’s an activity that will encourage bonding among the players as it requires plenty of vocal communication and physical interaction with one another. This is something that is rather rare these days in modern society where families usually interact with each other through electronic communication devices like mobile phones and social media websites.

bingoIt’s a sad thing to note that despite the fact that we’re getting more and more modern where communication is concerned, we don’t exactly communicate or interact with each other the old fashion way anymore. Such things should not happen. All of us ought to make more of an effort to interact with our loved ones the old fashioned ways whenever and wherever possible.

Anyway, back to the topic.

Stranded alone at home with noone to accompany you to play board games or wacky spine- twisting games to pass the time? Well, fret not. There’s a lot more things you can do to pass the time. You can always play Bingo or other games online to pass your time too.. Yup, you’re reading that right. You can play Bingo if you’re stranded at home during those gloomy days you can play these games online as there are many different sites that offer such games.

The designs and layouts do vary and you may have to shop around (so to speak) to find the ones that you enjoy the most.

Ladbrokes Bingo is a great and fun way to pass the time as they have many different games that you can play whilst chatting to others around the world in their community. The interactive feature allows you to experience the excitement in the comfort of your own home.

New Year Not doing Nothing

New Year Not doing Nothing

.. what that means is…  Despite it looking a little quiet around here, I’ve actually been quite busy – especially since the start of this new year. I have been designing, editing, blogging, blogging, editing and designing.. some of my favorite things in life!

[third]
I’ve totally redesigned the look and content (again!!) of wahmbuds.com. This time with my own custom graphic design and maybe I’ll stick with this theme design this time, who knows. Naw.. I’ll probably have something totally new by Valentines. ?[/third]

[third]
I was going to sell this site but changed my mind. I’m so glad I did too. I enjoy the mom content (new blogging here too) on this site and it’s been around for a while now (2004). I think all it needed was a new look. YeahMom! Can you say PINK?[/third]

[third]
I just recently started creating custom designed wordpress themes. I’m rather happy with this custom design I did for LP&P. I updated the site with new posts too.. I know it was feeling very lonely there for a while. Yes, my website have feelings – don’t yours!?[/third]

[third]
This site is easily my most posted on site.. mainly because I feel a little more liberal with it, posting more daily, life and fun stuff. It too got a new design and plenty of blogging. Also added a Good Reads widget here, great book/read tracking site.[/third]

[third]
MomsRewards.com – my oldest site (2000) saw a little bit of a face-lift with a new main image on the front page, a new design on it’s rewards blog and some new quality freebies of course. I’m happy to report it’s been seeing a lot of new visitors lately too. [/third]

[third]
I just get around to this site as often as I would really like to. Maybe this is something I can change for 2011. I did however, spend a good amount of quality time with this site just this morning, blogging about my favorite teachers blogs.[/third]

Also, worked on some custom graphic designs for a client and updated my design portfolio and paid some attention to AnotherBabyBoomer.com and Wahmiam.com with new blog posts.

It’s been a good couple of weeks at home on holiday vacation being able to get these updates done. I did manage to get up from my desk once in a while and eat, sleep, visit the gym, visit relatives and enjoy some quality family time playing many many rounds of Scene It too.

Wishing you a happy and fulfilling new year 2011 too!

New Web Host

Posted by on Oct 27, 2009 in Favorites, Internet | 0 comments

Changing webhosts was a scary venture for me. I had many sites to move and since I was at my old host for several years, I had many large databases to move as well. HostGator is where my new home is at. Thanks to some feeback from friends (Thanks Tammy!), I worked up the confidence to go for it and make the move. I like that HostGator gives me unlimited space for all my domains. I need that at this point for sure. Yes, paying less for all that space is certainly a plus too. I’m a happy camper. So, the move took me several days and I did lose one database somehow along the way.. but I am pleased that I manage to get about 95% of the job done, successfully and on my own. I learned a thing or two as well. That’s a bonus! Hopefully I won’t be moving again for a while now. I like my new home with the gator.
