Where to Network
December 27, 2008 | Social Networking

I was just visiting my friend Kathie’s blog and viewed her recent post about her favorite social networks. This lead me back to an older post of my own from several months ago on the same topic. I decided it was a good time to update and revive this post titled – Network with Me, which still displays a good assortment of my top choices for social networking. I will add to this however, that Facebook has become (over the past 6 months) my favorite networking spot lately. Twitter and Care2 are my second and third favorites.

Hi Karlyn
I like both Facebook and Twitter equally…have a presence on others but not as active. Ryze I guess comes in 3rd. How does one get a “normal looking” url to Facebook to direct people to your page? Do you know what I mean, or have they improved on that and I’ve missed it.
Happy holiday weekend, claudia
Hi Claudia, thanks for your feedback. I used to be more active with Ryze, not too much. That’s the unfortunate thing with social networks. When you get more active with one or two, there are always one or two that will see less of you. It’s just not possible to divide time equally among them all.
The normal looking url you want is called “webaddress” and it’s a FaceBook application. You can find it here: http://apps.facebook.com/webaddress/
Karlyn,
I am still trying to get into Facebook. I remember it from years ago when my daughter was in h.s. and it was all the rave for students. I’m still trying tofinagle my way through the network. What I didn’t know was Care2 was a social networking site. How cool!

Thanks, Karlyn, for the great advice as to the best sites for social networking. I’ve been remiss in this area and need to get going so your suggestions were right on for me. I’ll make these part of my New Year’s resolutions. See you soon on Facebook! :-)

I love Facebook, too. A lot of people from my church are on it, so it’s cool to see status updates on them, along with my friends and family.
I haven’t tried Cared2, but am hooked on Twitter!
I really need to take a better look at Facebook. I have a profile on the site but don’t login much. After using Myspace for years, Facebook seemed so confusing. I might be missing out though!
I really love Twitter!

Stef, it wold be great to see you on Facebook. Hope you get into it more. It took me a while too, but once you spend a little time there, you’ll see it’s easy to get around. I like the assorted ways you can post notes, links, photos and more. Also, firefox has a Facebook add-on that allows for quick “sharing” of blog posts and new articles you come across on the www. I use that every so often too. You can add you site’s rss feeds to your Facebook too. It’s a great social networking tool for sure.
